The Fiji National Sports Commission has been allocated $9.7 million from the 2023/2024 National Budget which was announced by Minister for Finance Professor Biman Prasad in Parliament yesterday.
The Government has set aside $5m for overseas tours, $1.9m for the upgrade of synthetic tracks at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva, $1.7m for the engagement of sports coaches, and $1.2m for the hosting of international sporting events.
“$9.7m is allocated for overseas sporting tours include Pacific Games, Commonwealth (Youth) Games, Rugby World Cup,” said Prof Prasad.
The Fiji National Sports Commission had made a submission of $15.5m.
However, the $9.7m allocation is an increase of $2.7m compared to their previous allocation of $7m last year.
