$8m-plus fire loss

MORE than $8million in structural damage and destroyed assets have been reported following the massive fire that destroyed the Gokal Group warehouse on Amy St in Toorak early Saturday morning.

In a statement, the National Fire Authority (NFA) confirmed the fire broke out shortly after midnight on July 26. The NFA command centre received a report at 12.40am through its 910 emergency line.

Firefighters from the Suva Fire Station arrived at the scene and got to work straight away.

A total of 36 firefighters, seven senior officers, five fire trucks and several support vehicles were deployed.

The Gokal Group warehouse was fully insured but has been declared a total loss.

NFA investigators have launched a probe into the cause of the fire.
