According to the report The State of Artificial Intelligence in the Pacific Islands, released by the AI Asia Pacific Institute based in Singapore, 85.2 per cent of Fiji’s population is online.

The report states in December 2023, the Fiji Government’s Cabinet approved the development of a National Digital Strategy.

“The Cabinet announcement stated that the National Digital Strategy ‘will lay out a co-ordinated approach to scale digital technology to drive economic growth and sustainable development’.

“It will provide the much-needed policy certainty to propel innovation, reinvigorate and intensify private sector investment.

“The National Digital Strategy will be accompanied by an Action Plan to further elaborate on the thematic areas outlined in the Strategy.”

The report states Fiji has DigitalFIJI, also known as the Digital Government Transformation (DGT) Program, which is a four-year digital transformation program spearheaded by the Fijian Government to implement a number of government applications, enhance the overall ICT infrastructure, and build and develop capacity in government digital transformation.
