A contract valued at $8.3million has been allocated for the phase two redevelopment of Govind Park in Ba.
The announcement was made by the Minister of Housing and Local Government, Maciu Nalumisa, during a groundbreaking ceremony yesterday.
“We embark on phase two, with a total contract value of $8,343,383.69 VIP, to be completed over the next six to eight months.
“In this regard, I urge the Ba Town Council to take full responsibility for the upkeep and maintenance of Govind Park, when completed,” Minister Nalumisa said.
The redevelopment of Govind Park will include modern amenities, enhanced seating, improved accessibility, and advanced safety features. These upgrades are designed to offer a superior experience for athletes, spectators, and community members alike.
Mr Nalumisa emphasised the importance of reinvesting revenues generated from the facility into its regular maintenance and future enhancements
“The revenue generated from the use of this facility should be reinvested into its regular maintenance and future enhancements.
“This includes the eventual addition of floodlights and other amenities that will ensure Govind Park remains a top tier venue for sports and community events. By doing so, we will secure the longevity and sustainability of this iconic stadium for generations to come,” he added.
Mr Nalumisa also acknowledged the support of the iTaukei Land Trust Board for granting consent to proceed with the phase two development.
He expressed anticipation for the work to be completed by the contractors, Western Builders Ltd and Heritage Fiji, and looked forward to the grand opening of what will be a modern stadium that serves as a testament to collective achievement.
“To the contractors, Western Builders Ltd and Heritage Fiji, we look forward to the grand opening of this modern stadium, which will stand as a beacon of what we can achieve together,” he said.
The successful completion of phase two will be a testament to our collective effort and commitment to making Ba a vibrant and prosperous community.
The new Govind Park grandstand capacity is 9000 excluding embankment which will be done in phase three.
