All eyes will be on Fiji Airways Fiji men’s 7s coach Osea Kolinisau and his men as they head to the HSBC SVNS series grand-final in Madrid this weekend.

It has been a title drought season for a team considered to be the champions of sevens rugby and Kolinisau wants his team to reign in Spain.

A win will set them up well for the Olympic Games in July where hopes of winning a third gold medal in men’s rugby sevens will be determined.

But first things first, Spain awaits the top 16 teams and for Fiji 7s the focus is on getting their systems right and executing every detail right.

“I think the only focus for this leg is to build momentum,” playmaker Teri Tamani stated.

The team spent the past few weeks addressing critical areas with possession topping the list.

“We need to build phases because every time we have the ball, we will only keep it for a few seconds before we lose it again.

“Madrid is important because we are building for the Olympics.

So, we must do the little things right and at the right time,” he added.

Fiji is in Pool B with Ireland, New Zealand and South Africa.

“It’s a good pool. It’s up to us, if we are tuned on from the first match then Fiji is on through out,” the Kadavu lad said.

Fiji faces NZ in its first pool match on Saturday at 12.14am, followed by Ireland at 11.06pm.

Their third pool match is against South Africa on June 2 at 1.49am.
