A shallow tropical disturbance, TD03F, lies to the northeast of Fiji and is moving southeastwards towards Tonga.
The National Weather Forecasting Centre Nadi stated in its 5.30am bulletin today that a trough of low pressure lied slow moving over Fiji.
A heavy rain alert is now in force for the Central and Eastern Division, Southern Bua And Cakaudrove Province.
“Associated trough with cloud and rain affects the southern and eastern parts of the group,” the bulletin said.
Forecast to midnight tonight, occasional rain, heavy at times and few thunderstorms are expected over greater Suva/Nausori-Tailevu Area, Coastal Serua-Namosi, interior Serua-Namosi, Naitasiri, Kadavu and nearby smaller islands, Cakaudrove province, southern Bua, Lomaiviti and Lau groups.
“Rain expected to become frequent and heavy from later today.
“Persistent heavy falls may lead to flash flooding of low lying and flood prone areas.”
