Minister for Employment, Productivity and Industrial Relations, Agni Deo Singh this afternoon told Parliament that the Employment Relations Amendment Bill had undergone “adequate consultations with all the stakeholders.”

He said nationwide sessions were held from January 8 to 17, 2025, with “over 700 people” taking part.

“The social partners, including the members of the public, were given another opportunity to make written submissions, and over 80 written submissions were also received,” Mr Singh said.

He noted that further separate consultations were held with the Fiji Trades Union Congress (FTUC) and the Fiji Commerce and Employers Federation.

“Employers and workers will never agree 100 per cent, we consult with the workers, we consult with the employers, we bring them together, we pick up all the consensus matters, and the balance that is left is government’s call,” he told MPs.

“When government makes a call, we ensure that it is balanced.”

“We hope that when we come back to Parliament later on, the next session, we’ll be able to enact the law,” Mr Singh said.
