Work on a water supply line for residents of Lautoka and Nadi worth $7.67million is 99 per cent complete.
The final stages of connecting these main water systems under the Nagado to Nadele Trunk Mains Upgrading Project will be carried out this weekend.
As a result, residents have been advised that water supply disruptions will be experienced in most residential and business areas between Nadi and the Fiji Marriott Resort in Momi Bay and nearby communities to allow Water Authority of Fiji engineers to facilitate the critical cut in and connection works on the DN 600 trunk main at the Nadele Junction located near the Nagado Water Treatment Plant in Sabeto.
“These works will connect the newly constructed DN 914 and DN 600 trunk mains as part of the Nagado to Nadele Trunk Mains Upgrading Project,” WAF said in a statement.
“The cut-in and connection activities, to be undertaken at Nadele and Nagado this weekend, represent the second phase of integrating the new DN 914 Mild Steel Concrete Lined (MSCL) pipeline into the DN 600 duplicate trunk mains supplying water to the Nadi and Lautoka system.
“As indicated into the first phase of recent planned works advisory dated 26 August 2025, a 2nd phase of works will be necessary to fully integrate the new DN 914 MSCL trunk mains to enable full commissioning of the project.
“The 1.48-kilometre DN 914 pipeline, constructed at a cost of $7.67m and funded by the Government of Fiji is currently 99 per cent complete.”
WAF said this connection work marked the final stage of integration before the pipeline is fully operational.
“Once fully commissioned later this year, the new DN 914 pipeline will significantly increase water supply capacity and improve network resilience for the Nadi and Lautoka water supply system.”
These works will be carried out from 6pm on Saturday to 6am on Sunday.
“WAF strongly advises all customers in the affected areas to store sufficient water to meet their needs for at least two to three days during the disruption period.
“Customers are also encouraged to consider installing proper water storage systems, such as connected household tanks, to improve their preparedness for planned and emergency shutdowns.
“Water carting trucks will be deployed to assist affected communities as required.”
