The $7.1 million Tavualevu bridge is officially open to the travelling public. Commissioning the new bridge, Minister for Public Works, Transport and Meteorological Services Ro Filipe Tuisawau said it would benefit those who used the Kings Rd to transport goods and services.
“It is also built to standard, to be climate resilient and to withstand natural disasters and changing weather patterns,” he said.
Mr Tuisawau said during his recent travels to the North and the West, he found a lot of work was needed to fix Fiji’s road networks.
“I visited a number of crossings and rural roads that were affected and also workers working in reinstatement and rehabilitation works.
“I wish to say at this juncture that one of the incoming Government’s priorities is maintaining our rural roads.”
He said the coalition Government was committed to enabling these much needed works to be carried out on infrastructure.
“This is why we are strengthening the Public Works arm of the ministry to see that this is addressed.
“This is mainly roads that are categorised as non-FRA roads that seem to be neglected in the past years.
“This is part of your government’s commitment to ensure that we have a reliable and accessible road network.”
