The Minister for Education, Aseri Radrodro, has tabled a detailed breakdown in Parliament on how the $66 million Free Education Grant (FEG) for the 2024–2025 financial year has been utilised, along with the measurable impacts on schools nationwide.

He said primary schools were issued $33.1 million across three terms, secondary schools got $25.8 million across three terms and early childhood education (ECE) received $1.45 million.

A total of $66,913,937.31 was disbursed, slightly exceeding the allocated $66 million due to adjustments in payment timing and school-level needs.

According to the Ministry, over 700 primary schools, 170 secondary schools, and over 400 ECE centres benefitted from the funding.

All schools are required to follow the Financial Management Handbook 2020, ensuring responsible spending and accountability. The Ministry continues to monitor FEG utilisation to ensure equity and efficiency.

“Free education is more than just tuition-free access – it’s about empowering every child with the tools and environment they need to thrive,” he said.
