The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has revealed that 15,589 traffic infringement notices (TINs) have been issued through its portable speed cameras since their deployment across Fiji over a two-month period.

LTA’s chief executive officer Irimaia Rokosawa confirmed these fines were recorded between September 1 and October 28, 2025, from cameras positioned along key highways and roads in the Central-Eastern, Northern, and Western divisions.

“The Western Division recorded the highest number of offences, with 8624 bookings,” Mr Rokosawa said.

“This was followed by the Central-Eastern Division with 5314, and the Northern Division with 1651.”

He added that the dollar value of fines varies depending on the severity of the speeding offence.

“Speeding penalties range from $25 to $60, based on how much the driver exceeds the speed limit.”

On the average figure of $42 per fine, the 15,589 TINs would result in fines of $654,738.

At the time of launching the portable cameras, Mr Rokosawa had said the equipment are part of LTA’s wider road safety initiative aimed at reducing accidents and promoting responsible driving behaviour.

“The deployment of these cameras will significantly enhance LTA’s ability to monitor and enforce speed limits, especially in high-risk areas identified as accident-prone zones,” he had stated.

“This new measure is part of the ministry’s and the authority’s ongoing efforts to improve road safety and protect all road users.”
