CHRISTMAS came early for close to 430 staff members of Airports Fiji Ltd yesterday after an announcement by Government that each would receive a five per cent bonus payout this week.
Delivering the news to staff members at the Nadi International Airport yesterday, Attorney-General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum said the $600,000 payout comes on the back of a successful financial performance by AFL this year.
“The bonus will be across the board because of the strong financial performance of AFL for the year,” he said.
“It was only about seven or eight years ago that AFL was making losses, but this year it is projected to make profit after tax of $32million.”
He said part of the profit would be used to finance the Nadi International Airport Modernisation Project.
“With that, of course, AFL is able to fund the modernisation project and Government wanted to recognise the efforts of the staff of AFL and the level of professionalism that has improved and which, of course, will continue to improve.
AFL executive chairman Faiz Khan said the company created a culture of learning and growth, which employees have been part of.
“The bonus will be paid at the rate of five per cent of base salary at the time of the bonus payment,” he said.
“AFL has a great team of workers who have embraced a culture of better work ethics and higher productivity.
“We are truly proud of our team and we can only get better; not only in our financial performances but in our service deliveries.”
