Fiji’s long-awaited 5G rollout will begin next year, starting with major economic centres including Suva, Nadi, Lautoka and Denarau.

Addressing Parliament, Deputy Prime Minister Manoa Kamikamica confirmed that Phase One of the national strategy for 5G spectrum assignment and deployment would span 2025-2026, targeting areas with fibre infrastructure, stable power supply and dense networks.

“This ensures that from the outset, Fiji’s commercial centres, tourism hubs, and emergency services gain immediate access to 5G capacity and begin to feel its benefits,” he told the House.

Phase Two, spanning 2026-2027, will extend services to Nasinu, Lami, Labasa and Savusavu, while Phase Three (by 2028) will expand to Nausori, Sigatoka, Navua, Ba, Tavua, Rakiraki, Korovou and Taveuni.

“We are equally focused on the rest of Fiji, particularly our rural and maritime areas, where many communities still operate on basic 2G or 3G coverage.

“The deployment of 5G should address local pain points and have use cases that benefit the communities and should not be restricted to Suva or Nadi.”

Fiji’s 5G operators will be required to commit to rural network upgrades as part of new licensing conditions.
