His close friend Shiek Sahib said the father-of-two was visiting his 79-year-old mother Vimla Wati.
“We were together a couple of nights ago and he was telling me to look after his mother if he ever passed away,” Mr Sahib said.
“He made me promise him but I refused because I did not want to accept anything would happen to him.
“His mother was everything to him. He would always make it a point to come and visit her every year.”
Ms Wati was overcome with grief over the death of her son.
She said the last conversation she had with her son was on Thursday morning.
“He was going to buy two gas cylinders for the house. He wanted it in stock because he was leaving for Australia on Monday.”
Mr Karan, whose family is in America, had been at his mother’s home since April 1.
“He wanted to go to Australia for two weeks and then come back to his mother,” Mr Sahib said.
According to police, the vehicle driven by Mr Karan veered off the road and crashed onto the bus.
