Two groups of aspiring educators graduated from Corpus Christi Teachers College in Suva — marking a significant milestone not only for the institution but also for the communities the graduates will soon serve.

The first cohort – 18 women who completed their Diploma in Early Childhood Education – were celebrated.

Corpus Christi principal Father Steven Filipo said the graduates had shown exceptional commitment despite earlier setbacks in their education journey.

“These women are hardworking students who truly want to seek knowledge,” he said.

“Many had opportunities before but because of marriage and other responsibilities, they couldn’t continue.”

The second cohort consisted of 34 students who completed the three-year diploma in Primary Teaching.

Father Filipo emphasised that Corpus Christi’s mission remains rooted in pastoral and spiritual formation – a tradition upheld since the institution was established in 1958 under Bishop Foley.

He thanked the parents, villages, provinces, the church and particularly the Ministry of Education and the Higher Education Commission for their continued supported.

New graduate Jasneeta Lakshmi, from Nausori, said she returned to study for her Diploma in Early Childhood Education 15 years after completing her certificate.

Jasneeta worked as a preschool teacher at Vuci Methodist Kindergarten.

Another graduate said the training prepared him for his teaching journey. Brother Anitelea Fidow said he was eager to begin teaching at one of the five Marist Brothers schools in Fiji.
