$5000 boost for Suva club

THE Suva Bowling Club has secured $5000 sponsorship for the Geotech Drilling National Singles Championship next week.

Suva Bowling Club president Dan Lum On is expecting over 100 bowlers from the country’s leading clubs for the two-day event.

“This is the most prestigious singles tournament in Fiji. In terms of prizes, this is one of the biggest. This is not the first time for Geotech Drilling to support bowls. Previously they have sponsored numerous bowls tournaments,” he said.

“The total sponsorship is $5000. The men’s and women’s grades winners will be rewarded in cash and kind. The respective winners also win a return trip to the World Champion versus Champion Series next year.”

Top seeds in the men’s grade for the Ram Charan National Singles Trophy include in-form bowler Samuela Tui, Semesa Naiseruvati, Arun Kumar and Sai Tokalau.

In the women’s grade, defending champion Litia Tikoisuva will be the player to beat for the Benson and Hedges Trophy. The likes of Elizabeth Moceiwai, Sai Walker and Radhika Prasad are expected to provide stiff competition for Tikoisuva.

Geotech Drilling International Services Ltd’s Gary Barnett presented SBC executives with a $5000 cheque yesterday.

“Our company is small and we tend to promote minor sports,” Barnett said.

“Hopefully the sponsorship and prizes encourage people to come and play.

“This is an annual event. We see what happens this year but next year this figure ($5000) can go up to seven thousand.”

The Geotech Drilling National Singles Championship will be held on October 10-11 at the SBC.
