Sofitel Fiji Resort and Spa on Denarau Island was under renovation, which ended up costing $45 million.

BSP Life managing director Michael Nacola during the Top Executive Conference said this was a joint venture partnership between the BSP Life and Fiji Airways under the Richmond Pte Ltd.

“We did not stop investing in completing this project because we knew it’s important not just for Richmond but for Fiji,” he said. “We wanted to ensure that when the borders open, this product is ready.”

He said the country was full of potential and it took the private sector to run this confidence of the investment.

“If we do it together under the banner of team Fiji and it works, then foreign investors would come.”

He added, foreign investors watched the trend with the local investors.

Mr Nacola also said the road to recovery would be arduous, but it depended on action.

“A lot of us have gone through tremendous challenges in the last six to 18 months, but hopefully the worst is behind us and as we look towards optimism. We have to put our money where our mouth is.”
