About 40 teams will be participating in the Siga Kei Viti Volleyball Tournament at the Valelevu Multipurpose Court today.

The teams are divided into two divisions—20 men’s teams and 20 women’s teams. All compete for a chance to win $500 for the winners, $200 for the runners-up, $100 for the semi-runners-up, and $50 for the best player.

Kaulotu Rokodreu, the tournament organiser, said it would be an exciting and highly competitive event, with volleyball teams showcasing their skills and talent.

The tournament aims to celebrate Fiji Day while also promoting and supporting local volleyball talent.

“With so many teams participating, the matches will be intense, showcasing both emerging and established talent,” said Rokodreu.

“Beyond the excitement of the games, the tournament will foster a family-friendly, festive atmosphere where people can celebrate Fiji Day together, enjoying the national pride, culture, and sportsmanship.

“This tournament is organised not only to celebrate Fiji Day but to promote local volleyball talent by providing a competitive platform for both women and men.

“With 40 teams in total, it represents a significant opportunity for young athletes to display their skills in front of local supporters.

“The involvement of 20 women’s teams also emphasises gender inclusivity in sports.

The event, supported by Minister for Women Lynda Tabuya, will serve as a stepping stone for local volleyball players to prove themselves, gain exposure, and grow in their sports careers.

“The tournament is also a symbol of unity, highlighting the importance of sports in bringing communities together.”

The organisers express their gratitude to Lynda Tabuya for her sponsorship and support, as well as to the participating teams, volunteers, coaches, and fans for their dedication and enthusiasm.
