Work on the $4.8million Velovelo Bridge in Lautoka is expected to be completed by March this year.

Fiji Roads Authority (FRA) CEO Kamal Prasad said while work had been continuing, the unfavourable weather conditions had been a major factor in construction works.

He said despite delays, they hoped to complete the project in a few months.

“Bridgework commenced on October 30, 2019, and is anticipated to be completed by the end of March 2022, weather permitting,” Mr Prasad said.

“The bridge structure is complete and the only outstanding works are the road approaches, pavement construction, demolition of the existing bridge structure and the final touches to the scour protection works which cannot be constructed until the existing bridge is demolished.

“The weather has significantly delayed the road’s construction.”

He added work on six more bridges in the Western Division would be carried out in 2022.

“These bridges are Tavualevu Bridge, Korovou Bridge, Vuniyasi Bridge, Bulu Bridge, Yaqara Bridge, Matewale Bridge and they have all been designed to have 100 years serviceable life.”
