Corpus Christi College has graduated 1520 Fijians with Diploma in Primary Education over the past 61 years, says principal Remesio Rogovakalali. He said this at a ceremony yesterday where 39 Fijians graduated.

Mr Rogovakalali said the 39 graduating teachers were prepared to teach every area of the curriculum and would teach in accordance with the national primary school curriculum.

“They have been spiritually prepared to teach the Catholic religion and to live out and pass on their faith,” he said.

“They will pay attention to each individual pupil’s progress and be concerned with the holistic care of children.”

Mr Rogovakalali said the COVID-19 pandemic affected the normal operations of the college, however, they managed to persevere through the challenges.

He said one of the biggest challenges was internet access and connectivity.

“There were no prior discussions on the necessity of students and staff owning internet devices such as computers, laptops, smartphones and tablets.

“Even when the second wave struck, our unpreparedness to equip ourselves with the necessary systems and devices hit us acutely.

“We are thankful to the staff and students for the way they showed positivity and resilience throughout the year.

“The pandemic had taught us great lessons in faith, hope and perseverance and reaching out to help one another.”
