A total of 38 teams are set to compete in the prestigious 2024 Vodafone Cup and Fiji National Rugby League Women’s Premiership, which will commence on June 29.
With 30 senior men’s teams and eight women’s teams, with a total of 230 matches scheduled to be played over the next 16 weeks.
At the official launch event held at Albert Park in Suva yesterday, FNRL chief executive officer Don Natabe expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming season, noting the governing body’s efforts to expand the game.
“The 2024 season promises to extend the game to untouched territories and rekindle our grassroots to elite pathways after an eventful four years,” said Natabe.
“I’m delighted on behalf of the league to be able to witness and see through the extension of what has become a special Vuvale bond between the Fijian rugby league communities, the Vanua and its partners.
“On behalf of our Vanua and rugby league communities, I acknowledge and thank our partners Vodafone Fiji Ltd, and National Rugby League of Australia who have contributed tremendously to the women’s game in Fiji.”
Vodafone Fiji head of recharge and distribution Nilesh Singh reiterated the company’s pride in sponsoring the event and acknowledged the individuals who are laying the foundation for rugby league in Fiji.
Singh emphasised the importance of upholding values such as sportsmanship, fair play, and teamwork in shaping the future of the sport, and called for continued support in championing this important cause to make a real difference in the community.
