36 teams for Fiji Day championship

A TOTAL of 36 teams participated in the Chinese Ambassador Cup; Fiji Day Badminton Championship held at Yat Sen School yesterday.

Among them were teams from the Philippines, two Chinese Embassy teams, and a team from Samoa, adding an international flair to the championship.

First-time competitors Joshine Caine and Delores Elliott expressed their excitement about participating in the tournament.

For Elliott, the experience of playing badminton for the first time was truly exhilarating.

She emphasised the challenge of facing young talent in the competition but expressed gratitude for the opportunity to take part.

“The sport of Badminton is really exciting, being the first-time participant, it was a great opportunity to be part of the competition,” said Elliott.

“We have a lot of young talent in the competition, and participating against them is a great challenge and me and my partner are grateful for the opportunity.”

Elliott highlighted the importance of focus and fitness in the sport, noting the need for training to improve performance.

Both Caine and Elliott, members of the Fiji Badminton committee, welcomed newcomers to join them in playing and enjoying the sport for better health and fitness.

Acknowledging the efforts of all participants and organisers, Caine expressed appreciation for the learning experience gained from the competition.

The championship will conclude today.
