$30k boost for aged care home

THE Ba Senior Citizens Association aged care home has seen an increase in the number of residents, with 120 members recorded this year compared with 45 last year.

The Ministry of Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation gave a timely grant of $30,000 on Tuesday, which totals Government’s support to the home to $75,000 since 2014.

Ba Senior Citizen’s Association secretary Arun Sharma said the grant would help the association effectively run the centre and their day care program, especially with the high number of residents they would administer this year.

“The centre has provided weekly programs for seniors by promoting an inclusive, protective, healthy and conducive environment for older persons,” he said.

With the number of older persons expected to increase by the year 2050, Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation Ministry permanent secretary Dr Josefa Koroivueta said people needed to ensure the wellbeing, comfort and care of older persons.
