The Household Income and Expenditure Survey (HIES) conducted in 2019 to 2020 had 30 per cent of youths living under poverty.
Former head of the Fiji Bureau of Statistics Kemueli Naiqama revealed this at a recent multi-stakeholder dialogue on the Fijian economy.
“That is an alarming number considering the future of our country,” Mr Naiqama said.
“So we have to look at the dividends opportunity and enhancing them through education and health initiatives.
“We have to appreciate and strengthen the use of population data for sound decision making.”
