285 open heart surgeries, 322 angiograms at Lautoka hospital since service launch

Lautoka Hospital has successfully conducted 285 open heart surgeries since cardiac procedures were introduced in October 2022, Minister for Health Dr Atonio Lalabalavu informed Parliament in a written response.

The update was in response to a written question from Opposition MP Parveen Bala, who sought details on cardiac procedures carried out at Aspen Hospital, Lautoka.

Dr Lalabalavu also confirmed that the newly established Cath Lab services, which commenced on 21 May 2025, have already performed 322 angiograms as of 26 September 2025.

“Cardiothoracic services at Lautoka Hospital are provided under a Concession Agreement between the Government of Fiji and Health Care Fiji Pte Ltd,” said Dr Lalabalavu.

“The services are outsourced to MIOT Investment (Fiji) Pte Ltd, which partners with MIOT Hospitals Pvt. Ltd. in India.”
