Twenty-eight businesses from China’s Guangdong Province showcased their products this week in Nadi as part of the 2023 Guangdong Product Roadshow in Fiji, organised by the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade Guangdong Committee (CCPIT Guangdong).
Investment Fiji – which was invited to be part of the event together with Fijian businesses selected from sectors such as agriculture, manufacturing and wholesale – said the Guangdong delegation showcased a diverse range of products, including electronics, food, tonics, lamps, and jewellery.
Investment Fiji chief executive officer, Kamal Chetty said it was exciting to be part of this event, connecting local businesses with potential partners from the Guangdong province.
“We believe roadshows such as this generate significant interest and lead to new business partnerships that benefit both economies,” he said.
“Guangdong has bilateral ties with Fiji and hopes to further strengthen that in the future, building on the opportunities of working together to enhance our infrastructure and services.”
Guangdong Province, home to the Pearl River Delta, is one of China’s major economic powerhouses and most important port, boasting a history of maritime economic activity that stretches back over 2000 years.
The 2023 Guangdong Product Roadshow was a big step in strengthening economic relations between Fiji and Guangdong Province as the selected businesses from Fiji also had the opportunity to explore potential partnerships and sourcing opportunities with their Guangdong counterparts.
Showcased export-ready Fiji-made products included turmeric, kava, timber, bottled water, canned tuna as well as herbal tonics.
The event which was held at the Sofitel Fiji Resort & Spa in Nadi and was expected to help lift Fiji’s export capabilities and attract potential buyers from Guangdong to further diversify the country’s export portfolio, according to Investment Fiji.
