Commuters using the newly-upgraded Lautoka bus terminal will soon be monitored round-the-clock with CCTV surveillance, Lautoka Board of Special Administrators chairperson Taitusi Rasoki has confirmed.
He said the $2.8million terminal upgrade included the installation of cameras to keep track of criminal activity in the area.
“Also included in this project is CCTV that will be installed along this bus terminal to keep track of all criminal activities in this area,” he said.
The move is part of efforts by the council and Ministry of Local Government to tighten security across the city amid rising concerns over drugs and other criminal activities.
“As we know, the criminal elements are on the rise in Fiji now, especially the drugs,” Mr Rasoki said, adding that identifying key hot spots is a priority to ensure safety.
He emphasised that the project responds directly to government and ministerial expectations for safe, functional infrastructure for the public.
