Fiji has 22,991 livestock farming households in the country, states the 2020 Agriculture Census.
During the census period, 26.7 per cent of livestock farming households in Fiji had dairy cattle, 28.3 per cent reared beef cattle, 11 per cent bred sheep, 35.6 per cent farmed goat, 37 per cent had pigs, 38.5 per cent farmed poultry and 4.5 per cent were involved in apiculture.
The census found 20.9 per cent of livestock farmers were in the Central Division, 6.7 per cent came from the Eastern Division, 44 per cent were in the Western Division and 28.4 per cent in the Northern Division.
The census found Fijian livestock farmers had 70,041 beef cattle and 49,650 dairy cattle.
A total of 58,420 pigs were owned by livestock farmers while 143,853 goats were counted as stock.
Livestock farmers had 37,435 sheep and 1.4 million poultry birds.
