A MAJOR boost has been received by the Tailevu Rugby Football Union (TRFU) as Fresh Choice Supermarket, a subsidiary of the P Meghji group of companies, formalised a sponsorship deal worth $20,000 for the upcoming 2026 rugby season.
This sponsorship agreement signifies a significant turning point for Tailevu rugby, which has traditionally operated without any commercial backing, relying solely on volunteer efforts, club registration fees, and community fundraising.
The partnership with Fresh Choice Supermarket presents a vital infusion of resources for Tailevu rugby, enabling support for its 36 registered clubs, more than 1,800 players, and a robust rugby community consisting of over 90,000 individuals within the Tailevu province.
During the signing ceremony yesterday, Romit Meghji, the owner and director of the P Meghji group of companies, emphasised the central role of rugby in provinces like Tailevu and expressed pride in collaborating with the Tailevu Rugby Football Union.
“Rugby is a heartbeat of Provinces like Tailevu, we are proud to partner with the Tailevu Rugby Football Union and invest in the development of young players, women’s rugby, and grassroots sport,” said Meghji.
“This is not just a sponsorship; it is a commitment to the future of our communities.”
Joseph Rodan senior, president of Tailevu rugby, hailed the partnership as a historic moment for the union, marking the first time they have secured a naming rights partner who shares their vision and values.
“This is a historic day for Tailevu rugby, for the first time, we have a naming rights partner who believes in our vision and our people,” said Rodan.
“Fresh Choice Supermarket’s support will transform what we are able to offer our players and clubs.
“We are deeply grateful to Romit Meghji and the P Meghji group for stepping forward.”
