THE Fiji Golf Club Season Opening 2025 teed off with 100 golfers across 14 teams at the highly anticipated event sponsored by Goodmanfielder.
Among the competitors was Fenton Lutunatabua, a pacific activist and golfer who rediscovered his passion for the sport three years ago after a long break.
Lutunatabua, who first played golf as a junior is now part of Stiff Shafts, a group of young men and women who share a passion for the game.
He, along with his other friends was invited to join the club when they returned to the sport.
“The Stiff Shafts crew saw us playing and invited us to their club,” Lutunatabua said.
“It has been an incredible sense of community, learning a new sport and doing it with a group of peers.”
The Stiff Shafts golf club has been around for about a decade, founded by a group that included Lupeti Fihaki and Alex Konrote.
The team competed in the four-man Ambrose format, requiring teamwork and strategy.
“We have to figure out each other’s strengths and weaknesses and complement that out on the course,” Lutunatabua said.
“Golf can be unpredictable you can be great one day and terrible the next, but the aim is to have fun.”
Despite the challenging weather conditions, Lutunatabua remained focused on the experience and encouraged young people to find a sport they love.
