83,840 tourists arrived last month in Fiji, the Fiji Bureau of Statistics (FB0S) has said.
FBoS said Fiji’s annual visitor arrival for 2024 was 982,938.
The December arrivals of 83,840 was an increase of 9.1% compared to 76,845 in November 2024.
FBoS said out of the 83,840 visitors, 83,021 came by air while 819 came by sea. The sea arrivals were mostly seamen on fishing vessels (806) and 13 arrivals by yacht.
For December 2024 visitors arriving for holiday purposes accounted for 78.2% of total arrivals, 8.9% came to visit their friends or relatives, 1.2% came for business purposes, while 11.7% visited Fiji for other reasons.
FBoS states the majority of visitors were in the age range of 25-64 years (61.0%), which accounts for the vast majority of the working age population.
Children aged 14 and below accounted for 17.4% of the December visitor arrivals; 13.9% were youths aged 15-24 with the remaining, 7.7% comprising those in the predominantly retirement age group of 65 and over.
