The Natabua High School under-18 side will be the only team from the Western Division to take part in the semi-finals of the Vodafone Deans Trophy competition this coming weekend.
The Lautoka-based school edged Lelean Memorial School 13-12 after an intense match at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva on Saturday.
Natabua head coach Tevita Delailomaloma said sticking to the basics of the sport helped his side secure a spot in the semi-finals after beating LMS.
“Before they ran on to the field, I told the boys to stick to the basics, and they’ll be able to win the game,” he said.
“I also told them to trust the process that they have been through since last year, as they have been working very hard to come this far.”
He said eventhough the win against a very tough school was sweet, they still needed to work on their performance on the field.
“We need to hold on to the ball more, as you can see, we were unable to do this throughout the game, but the boys managed to pull through.”
Delailomaloma said Lelean managed to cover up all areas across of the field, making it hard for his side to find a gap to score.
“They are a very tough team, and they managed to defend well.”
“We will need to work on our game phases and attacks this week as we await the semis.”
