Ratu Kadavulevu School fired a warning shot to schools going for gold at the 2023 Coca-Cola Games by winning back-to-back titles at the Tailevu Zone Competition yesterday.
The RKS boys scooped 25 gold, 14 silver and 20 bronze medals to prove their dominance at the HFC Bank Stadium.
In the girl’s division, Tailevu North College also retained its title with 25 gold, eight silver and 13 bronze.
In second place in the boy’s division was Queen Victoria School with 19 gold, 31 silver and 15 bronze and in the girls competition, Dawasamu Secondary School got eight gold, 10 silver and 14 bronze.
A total of 650 athletes participated this year compared to 725 students in 2022.
Tailevu Zone president and meet manager Semisi Waqa Bainivalu said despite the lower numbers, they were overjoyed at the display of talent.
He said they were fortunate to have witnessed an extraordinary chapter of another competition where new champions were born.
“Every sports competition comes with victory, your commitment and hard work surely mean a strong team for the 2023 Coca-Cola Fiji Finals,” said Bainivalu.
“The zone was a huge success and we would like to thank all the schools, without them this competition would not have been possible.”
All eyes are on RKS in the lead-up to the Coca-Cola Games scheduled for April 27-29.
