2022 General Election : ‘Stop count’ opposition leaders raise concerns

OPPOSITION political party leaders have called for a halt in the 2022 General Election results count saying they do not trust the process.

They say they have also written to the Electoral Commission, the President and the Commander of the Fiji Military Forces expressing grave concerns over the “questionable results” released so far by the Fijian Elections Office (FEO).

This, after the FEO stopped the vote counting process on Wednesday night because of a “glitch” in the FEO App.

Early yesterday the FEO said no further provisional results would be announced at a time when the App stated votes from more than 600 polling stations were yet to be counted.

The leaders of The People’s Alliance, National Federation Party, Fiji Labour Party, Unity Fiji and We Unite Fiji said they were also “seriously considering non-compliance” with being sworn in as members of Parliament.

Social Democratic Liberal Party leader Viliame Gavoka also demanded a recount, saying the “people deserve answers”.

Yesterday afternoon Supervisor of Elections Mohammed Saneem said he had nothing to hide and asked the political party leaders if they had proof of the concerns they were raising.

He said he had not received any communication from any of them.
