2022 Fiji Day: 52 years of independence

Blue, white and red colours could be seen as you enter the Laqere Market on Thursday last week.

It is the colours that signify an important time for Fiji – it reaching 52 years of Independence.

The energy felt as you entered the market brought about happiness and togetherness.

Filled with market vendors of multi-ethnic groups in beaming smiles and flamboyant attire – you sure understood what it meant to be a proud Fijian.

From Fiji Day themed beautiful headpieces, sarongs, hats, T-shirts, Bula-shirts and sulu-jaba with flags and banners hung on the market beams, it was certainly a day of merriment for the municipal market vendors and staff.

There to celebrate with the market staff and vendors was the Nasinu Town Council chief executive officer, Anurashika Bari.

Ms Bari who joined in the festivity said the day was to remind them that they were all working for one nation and for its betterment.

“I wish you all the best this Fiji Day,” she said.

“For the long weekend, I hope you will all stay safe and enjoy your time with family and friends.”

More than 200 vendors and their families were part of the Fiji Day celebration.
