Veteran goalkeeper Simione Tamanisau scooped the 2022 Punjas Battle of the Giants Golden Glove Award.
Tamanisau was instrumental in the Labasa’s win in the second major tournament in Fiji FA’s calendar.
The 41-year-old policeman made some daring saves to help the Babasiqa Lions win the $17,000 prizemoney.
Tamanisau said he was proud to captain the winning team.
“It is a privilege and honour to captain the team and win the title,” he said.
“I started my football career in Rewa and playing against them was an honour.
“I have won many titles with them and I knew how strong they will come in the final. I thank God for giving me strength to be at my best,” said Tamanisau.
“I praise the hard work of the players and team management because without their support, we would have not created history.
“Whether it is Labasa or Rewa, I thank the Almighty for the talent, and for the fans for supporting me in whichever game or team I play.”
The former national goalkeeper is expected to retire from football after his tenure with Labasa.
