The Savusavu football side has won the inaugural Presidents Cup defeating Nadogo 5-4 on penalties after both teams were tied 1-all after full time.
After a scoreless first spell, Sailasa Vosaicake put Seaqqa into the lead with a well time run which the Savusavu keeper miss time.
Savusavu, led by Maciu Dunadamu upfront, applied pressure and were awarded after Apisai Sesewa equalised in the dying stages.
The match went into penalty kicks as Nadogo’s Ratu Sepesa hit the cross bar.
Apisai Sesewa steped up and successfully converted the winning penalty for Savusau. Savusavu captain Livai Dugucagi said despite being down he told the boys it was possible.
“I told the boys to regroup, there is still time. We have been down for some time but we came into this tournament with an aim and am glad we achieved it,” he said.
He added that Savsavu will come out firing next season.
“This is a start of something very big for us. We want to go into next season with a positive vibe and this is what we needed,” he said.
Savusavu received $2500 for the win while Nadogo received $700.
