DESPITE thumping Tuvalu 10-1 in their second last pool match at the 2019 Pacific Games, Fiji man’s football coach Christophe Gamel was not impressed with the game.
Gamel in an interview yesterday at the Faleata football field said he was happy about the result but not the game.
“We didn’t play well,” Gamel said.
However, he praised the effort and fight given by the counterparts from Tuvalu.
“I salute the fight Tuvalu gave us despite that they are suffering from climate change and it took them one week to get here.
“For our players I’m very unhappy about the way we played,” he said.
Gamel said the link between the players was not there and that the players lacked consistency and continuity.
However, Gamel said they’re still up for medal contention and would depend on the game against New Caledonia and Tahiti to be played last evening at 7pm.
“We will be ready on what will happen and we know it will be a different scenario,” he said.
Gamel said they would need to step up their game in their last pool game on Thursday against Solomon Islands otherwise they would have worked so hard for nothing.
The goal scorers for the match against Tuvalu were: Remueru Tekiate, Rusiate Matarerega,Malakai Rakula, Tito Vodowaqa (2), Kishan Sami, Christopher Wasasala (2) Roy Krishna (2).
Meanwhile, the Fiji women’s team defeated New Caledonia 4-0 with goals from Viniana Riwai, Cema Nasau, Jotivini Tabua and Lora Bukalidi.
The Marika Rodu-coached side will play Tonga in their final match on Thursday at 11am (Fiji time).
