2016-2017 Budget: $0.23 million more expenditure than last year’s budget

Update: 8:20PM The 2016-2017 Budget presented to Parliament this hour by Finance Minister Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum has an expenditure value of $3.64 billion, $0.23 billion more than the $3.41 billion announced in 2016.

The 2017  projected revenue is expected at $3.18 million, $0.05 million more than the $3.13 million forecasted for the 2016 budget. The deficit announced by the minister for the year 2017 is $468 million, $182.2 million more than the deficit of $285.8 million for 2016.

The large deficit for the 2017 Budget has been attributed to the devastation left behind by TC Winston.
