HONESTY has rich rewards as 40-year-old Sugar City Mall cleaner Asbin Kumar found out yesterday.
Mr Kumar was given $200 in cash after he returned a bag filled with $4000 cold hard cash to its owner.
The honest man came across the bag almost three weeks ago but had no idea it contained money.
“I did not look inside when I found it. I just put it in our bulk room where we put all lost items.”
He said two weeks had passed and he noticed the bag was still in the storeroom.
“I decided to look inside to try and look for a contact for the owner.”
He said he was shocked at the discovery.
“I took the money straight to my boss who contacted the Lautoka City Council and police.
“We also found contact details so we called him and told him that we had found his bag.”
A relieved and grateful Viliame Jale was happy to have the money back in his possession.
“I was building a house and the money was for supplies,” Mr Jale said.
“I had just withdrawn the money and I was waiting at the mall but I had forgotten my bag when I went to the washroom.”
He said when he returned to his seat, the bag was missing.
