$200 bribe fails: man caught with suspected drugs

A 41-year-old man is in police custody after he allegedly attempted to bribe a police officer during a joint traffic operation with the Land Transport Authority (LTA) in Sigatoka.

The incident occurred yesterday morning along the Queens Road near Koromumu, during a routine traffic stop.

According to police, the suspect was a passenger in a vehicle that had been pulled over for inspection.

He allegedly offered a $200 bribe to a police officer in an attempt to have the vehicle released without further checks.

Officers immediately detained the man. A subsequent search allegedly uncovered dried leaves believed to be marijuana in his possession.

The suspect was taken to the Sigatoka Police Station, where the seized substances were secured and sent for forensic analysis.
