UNITY Fiji will reduce its Cabinet minister portfolios to 18 if they form the next Government.
While launching the party’s 2026 General Elections manifesto, party leader Savenaca Narube said this would be part of their efforts to reduce government costs.
He said to fund their commitments under five key pillars that focus on economic transformation, the party will make drastic changes within government.
“To pay for these commitments without overborrowing, Unity Fiji will reduce Cabinet size to approximately 18 ministers, cut government waste, and introduce zero-based budgeting,” he said.
“We will reduce the budget deficit to 1 per cent of GDP by 2027 to 2028 and drive national debt below 50 per cent of GDP.”
Highlighting Fiji’s cost of living challenges, Mr Narube said his part would also review fiscal and import duties on fuel and basic food items.
“Families are struggling every day at the supermarket.
“Under Unity Fiji, we will keep VAT at zero per cent on all essential food items and prescribed medicines.
He added they would also address Fiji’s drug crisis through strategic partnerships.
“We will also confront the illicit drug crisis destroying our communities.
“Unity Fiji will create a unified approach bringing together churches, traditional vanua leaders, and government authorities to enforce stricter penalties on drug traffickers while establishing dedicated rehabilitation and treatment units for our youth.”
