Team Fiji’s Para-Table Tennis side secured our second gold medal at the Pacific Games in the Solomon Islands yesterday.
Fiji competed in the Para-Table Tennis event which featured four-time Pacific Games rep Merewalesi Roden, Akanisi Latu and Lainiana Serukalou.
Roden said winning Fiji’s second gold of the games was a huge achievement for the team.
“We are excited and happy to be winning Fiji’s second gold, it is a huge achievement for the team,” she said.
“This is also the first time for this event to be held at the games. For this event, a member of one team who is on a wheelchair will take on a member of the other team who is standing. This goes for both the singles and doubles.”
Roden said while they were excited with their achievement, they will have to remain focused throughout the remainder of the tournament.
“While we are all happy and excited for winning gold, we still must maintain our focus here because we all still have events we are yet to compete in.
“The individual singles for both the team and women are still left for us.”
