There is much anticipation from Fiji’s national sailing side to the Pacific Games in the Solomon Islands. Veteran sailor Will Moffat is banking on an exciting competition this year as he makes his debut for the country.
“We have a very expirenced team with us here for sailing. Though I may be making my debut, I am not new to the sport,” he said.
Moffat is also the general manager of Musket Cove Resort in the Mamanuca Group, which has been hosting the Fiji Reggatta Competition for the past few years.
Team Fiji’s sailing side arrived in the Solomon Islands on Thursday.
“We will be going to the area where we will be competing and just test the waters. The atmosphere and weather here is not too different from Fiji so the team is looking forward to competing.”
Moffat said the opportunity to represent Fiji was something he was very proud of.
“It’s such an honour to be able to represent Fiji at the Pacific Games and I cannot wait to get in the water to compete.”
The sailing competition starts on Monday at DC Park. Sailing at the Pacific Games was first contested when the sport was added for the 1969 games at Port Moresby.
It has also been included at several of the Pacific Mini Games, starting with the fifth edition held in American Samoa in 1997.
