Team Fiji bagged another silver medal on Thursday evening after their 4×400 metre men’s relay side came in second place in the final at the Pacific Games.
The relay side included Waisake Tewa, Vishant Reddy, Sailasa Moala and Jonacani Koroi, The quartet clocked a time of 3 minutes and 15.80 seconds – three seconds behind winners Papua New Guinea.
The side is one of the youngest relay teams to represent Fiji to the Pacific Games, with the eldest being 21 years old.
Tewa spoke on behalf of the team, and said winning a medal for Fiji at their first Pacific Games was a huge achievement.
“For all of us in this relay team, this is our first time representing Fiji and competing at the Pacific Games,” he said.
“It’s a very huge achievement for us because the athletes we competed against were much older and had more experience than all of us.”
He said before their race, their team got together and encouraged each other that anything was possible.
“We knew we would be running against experienced runners so we just got together before our race and had a prep talk.
“This win is also an emotional one for us because we came in as underdogs, with everyone making their debut for the country at the game.”
