17th Pacific Games | Curtains fall on Games, Fiji sixth

The 2023 Pacific Games in the Solomon Islands finally came to an end yesterday.

The 17th edition of the region’s sporting event started on November 17 featuring 24 countries.

Team Fiji created a handful of historic achievements at the Games, with the most notable being a gold medal in tennis for the first time.

Other achievements include a gold medal in boxing after a span of 20 years.

Fiji bagged a total of 21 gold medals, 30 silver and 40 bronze over the past two weeks of competition and was placed sixth. In first place was New Caledonia with 82 gold medals, 57 silver and 58 bronze.

Looking at the majority of young athletes Team Fiji brought to the Games, the side did exceptionally well.

The Games concluded with an official closing ceremony with the Main Stadium filled to the brim with spectators from all over the Pacific.
