EDUCATION Minister Aseri Radrodro says the Coalition Government will provide $160million in tertiary scholarships and loans to support more than 23,000 students in this new financial year.
In the 2024–2025 financial year, Government had provided $150.5m to TSLS for this purpose.
Mr Radrodro said 9100 new students and 14,037 continuing students would receive assistance through the Tertiary Scholarships and Loans Service (TSLS), bringing the total number of beneficiaries to 23,137.
“In this new financial year through the Tertiary Scholarships and Loans Service under the leadership of the Coalition Government, we will be supporting 9100 new and 14,037 continuing students,” he said.
“This totals up to 23,137 students who will be assisted through a budget allocation of $160million.”
Speaking at the launch of the 2027 TSLS Scholarship Policies Handbook at the TELS office in Suva yesterday, Mr Radrodro said the investment demonstrated the Government’s commitment to making higher education more accessible.
“These allocations speak as a significant amount of commitment of the Coalition Government in providing financial assistance to deserving students, enabling them to pursue higher education without the burden of financial constraints.”
He said the new scholarship schemes had been aligned towards “greater and equitable access” to human capital development, particularly to help address Fiji’s loss of skilled workers through migration.
Mr Radrodro said the handbook would provide greater transparency by outlining scholarship and loan programs, eligibility criteria, application processes and available support services.
