A 15-year-old male student has become the latest road fatality following a serious accident along the Nausori Highlands route yesterday afternoon.
Police said the deceased was travelling with seven other students towards Nadi when the vehicle lost control while descending a hill in the Nausori Highlands area.
Initial information indicates the vehicle tumbled along the road, causing all passengers to be thrown out on impact.
The vehicle then plunged down a cliff estimated to be about 100 metres deep.
Emergency services responded to the scene, and all occupants were transported to Nadi Hospital for medical treatment. The 15-year-old student was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Police confirmed that three other victims remain admitted in hospital in stable condition, while the remaining occupants, including the driver, were treated and later discharged.
The Fiji Police Force said investigations into the cause of the accident are ongoing.
