THE 14th Oceania Swimming Championships became more than just an international competition as it was a proud family milestone for the Kwong family as all the three siblings represented Fiji.
Leading the trio is 19-year-old swimmer Charis Kwong, joined by her younger sister Theola Kwong, 16, and youngest brother Thaddeus Kwong, 15, as part of Team Fiji at the championship in Suva.
The trio are originally from Bucalevu in Ra and share maternal links to Rotuma.
Their mother, Moreen Kwong, described the occasion as one of the proudest moments for the family, seeing all three children compete together in national colours.
“Seeing all my children wear the Fiji colours at the same championship was emotional and rewarding, reflecting years of sacrifice, commitment, and dedication to the sport,” Moreen said.
Moreen said watching her children compete together for Fiji was a dream come true, especially after the countless early morning trainings, long hours at the pool, and support from family members throughout their swimming journey.
Eldest sibling Charis Kwong shared her gratitude to her parents for always being there for them.
“We’re thankful to our parents. We wouldn’t be here without their support,” she said
Her youngest brother Thaddeus Kwong acknowledges the endless support from his family throughout the championship.
“I would like to thank mum, dad, and my family for cheering us on from the opening day of the championship,” Thaddeus said.
The Kwong sibling’s presence at the 14th Oceania Championships highlighted not only their individual talents but also the strong family bond that continues to inspire many young swimmers around the country.
