Fourteen motorists were arrested for drunk driving over the past 48 hours, prompting renewed warnings from the Fiji Police Force about the deadly risks of getting behind the wheel while intoxicated.

Police said the arrests were made during traffic operations carried out across the country.

Officers reminded drivers that drunk driving remains one of the leading contributors to serious and fatal road accidents.

In the same period, police also recorded 256 bookings for speeding, further highlighting persistent non-compliance with road safety laws.

Authorities say operations will continue nationwide as police work to reduce road fatalities and encourage responsible driving behaviour.
